The Karaite Jewish University

The Karaite Jewish University (KJU) is an academic institution dedicated to the study and teaching of Karaite Judaism — its theology, traditions, and history. It provides a structured learning environment focused on the Hebrew Scriptures (Miḳrā), emphasizing direct study of the text without reliance on later rabbinic interpretation. KJU operates under the authorization of the Council of Sages of Universal Karaite Judaism, the official body recognized by the State of Israel as representing Karaite Jews in matters of personal status.

How it works

Students begin with foundational study materials and gain access to the digital library for self-study. Each subject block is then discussed in mandatory live classes, modeled after traditional academic lectures. Every module concludes with a written exam, and the program ends with a final thesis. Upon successful completion, participants receive a formal certificate recognized by the Karaite leadership. The learning approach combines academic rigor, critical thinking, and spiritual integrity — guiding students to know, not merely to believe.
