We are pleased to announce that the next Certificate in Ḳaraite Jewish Studies will begin Certificate Course in Ḳaraite Jewish Studies Sunday, 6 September 2026.

This year-long, English-language distance learning programme offers students the opportunity to explore Ḳaraite Judaism in depth: its biblical foundations, its way of life, its approach to Scripture, and its continuing relevance for Jews and sincere seekers today.

Ḳaraite Judaism is rooted in the Miḳrā՚ — the Hebrew Scriptures — and in the responsibility of each student to study, reflect, ask, and live with integrity before the God of Israel. The course therefore does not merely present historical information. It invites students into a serious encounter with Scripture, practice, community, and personal commitment.

What the course covers

The course introduces students to the central foundations of Ḳaraite Jewish thought and practice. Topics include:

  • Fundamentals and Biblical ExegesisStudents begin by learning the principles of Ḳaraite interpretation, the authority of the written Tora, and the importance of careful, responsible study.

  • Purity and KashruthThe course explores biblical concepts of purity, permitted and forbidden foods, and how these principles shape daily life.

  • ShabbathStudents study the biblical meaning of Shabbath, its commandments, its spiritual significance, and its practical observance.

  • CalendarThe biblical calendar is a central part of Ḳaraite Jewish life. The course introduces students to the foundations of biblical time, months, festivals, and sacred observance.

  • Righteousness and Way of LifeḲaraite Judaism is not only a matter of belief, but of conduct. The course reflects on justice, faithfulness, responsibility, and the ethical demands of the Miḳrā՚.

  • Final EssayAt the end of the programme, students complete a final essay on an approved topic, allowing them to engage deeply with an area of special interest.
